About Only Hounds
We started this because we couldn't find greeting cards that actually looked like our sighthounds.
The "Gap in the Market" Story
It was a friend's birthday. We wanted to send a card featuring a dog that actually looked like the greyhounds we obsess over. So we went looking. And looking. And looking some more.
Every "dog birthday card" seemed to feature either a fluffy spaniel, a confused-looking Labrador, or a generic cartoon dog that could be anything. Where were the long noses? The elegant necks? The very specific "I'm judging your life choices" expression that only a sighthound can pull off?
We realised two things. First, there's a massive gap in the market for breed-specific greeting cards. Second, we could fill that gap while genuinely serving the sighthound community we're part of.
We're here because we genuinely couldn't find what we wanted, and we figured other sighthound owners were having the same problem.
Meet Snootography — Our Debut Artist
We partnered with Snootography for our launch collection because they get it. They're a UK-based artist who started drawing sighthounds for exactly the same reason we started Only Hounds — because they couldn't find cards that captured the chaotic elegance of sighthound life.
"I draw what I see: 45mph couch potatoes, professional counter-surfers, and dogs who think they're cats. No AI, no stock photos, just actual sighthounds being magnificently ridiculous."
Snootography creates hand-illustrated designs that capture everything from the dignity of a greyhound at full sprint to the absolute absurdity of a whippet who's spotted a squirrel through a window. Every card in our launch collection is their work.
Why We Don't Use AI
We believe sighthounds have too much personality to be captured by an algorithm. The specific way a whippet tilts its head when judging you. The particular chaos of a greyhound's zoomies. The unmistakable expression of a lurcher who's just spotted something move three fields away.
These require human observation, human experience, and human love of the breed. AI can generate a thousand variations instantly, but it can't capture the exact expression your whippet makes when you say "walkies."
Every card we sell is hand-drawn by a real artist who actually owns sighthounds. No templates. No algorithms. Just authentic creativity from someone who understands the "sighthound thing."
Our Sighthound Obsession
We're not "dog people" — we're sighthound people. There's a difference.
We understand that owning a sighthound means accepting certain truths: your sofa is no longer yours, the word "walkies" must never be spoken unless you mean it, and you now take 47 photos a day of your dog sleeping in increasingly contorted positions.
We celebrate the chaos. The zoomies. The roaching. The way they steal your heart and your favourite spot on the sofa. Our cards are for people who get it — because we're those people too.
What's Next
We're starting with Snootography because their work perfectly captures what we're about. But we're always looking for more artists who share our sighthound obsession.
If you're an artist who draws sighthounds (and preferably owns one or three), we'd love to hear from you. We're building something here — a place where sighthound owners can find cards that actually look like their dogs, created by people who understand why that matters.
The Bottom Line
We're here because we genuinely believe sighthound owners deserve better than generic dog cards. We believe in paying artists fairly for their work. We believe in quality over quantity. And we believe that if you own a sighthound, you deserve a card that actually looks like your magnificent, ridiculous dog.
Thanks for being here. Now go find a card for your hound.
